On Christmas Night

On Christmas Night

On Christmas night so long ago
A tiny babe was born,
While angels sang both sweet and clear
On that special morn.

One star shone clear and brilliant,
And shepherds watched in awe.
And the lowing cattle all stood still
While the sheep and donkey saw--

The infant child, a baby boy,
The Son of God was born.
Mary cradled Him at her breast
 On that damp, chill morn.

An aura shone round 'bout him
As he lay in swaddling clothes,
A halo shone o'er his tiny head;
All who saw him said, "He glows."

The wise men from the East did bring
Frankincense, myrrh, and gold,
While a great light shone on Mary
And the Christ child she did hold.

Generations now have passed away
Since the heavens proclaimed the king,
And a thousand million Christians
Worship Him as they sing--

"Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth, good will to all";
Our Lord Jesus was born in a manger,
He was sheltered in a stall.

Ring out, ye bells, for Christ is born,
The Prince of Peace has come,
Glad tidings peal from heaven's dome
And through all Christendom.
